Eastleigh League Debut:
24th January 2012, v Salisbury City
Eastleigh completed the signing of classy midfield playmaker Daryl McMahon for an undisclosed fee from Blue Square Bet South rivals Boreham Wood on the 23rd January 2012.
The Dublin-born player agreed a two-year deal with the Spitfires and made his debut for Ian Baird's side a day later at home to Salisbury City in the 1-1 draw at the Silverlake Stadium.
Like Eastleigh’s new loan striker Bradley Bubb, the 28-year-old was a key member of the Farnborough side that finished BSB South runners-up in 2010/2011. He made about 100 appearances during a successful two-year stay at the north Hampshire club, initially helping them gain promotion as Southern Premier champions.
When that team broke up during the summer, the former West Ham trainee, who was part of Leyton Orient’s promotion-winning campaign to League One in 2005/6, moved to Boreham Wood as player/coach and, later, assistant manager.
McMahon, who also includes Port Vale, Stevenage Borough and Cambridge United among his former clubs, adds to a raft of quality new signings at Eastleigh since new club owners Bridle Insurance pledged to deliver League football to the Silverlake.
Manager Ian Baird said: “We are delighted to have secured Daryl’s signature.
“The lad has undoubted quality and I know Boreham Wood were extremely reluctant to let him go.
“He is a good professional and, at 28, will add some experience and quality to the squad.
“His attitude is first class and he is very keen to be part of what we are trying to achieve here.”
After a good debut against Salisbury City, midfielder McMahon's ability to unlock defences was again in evidence as he set up two of Eastleigh's goals in a 4-0 victory over Sutton United, where Bradley Bubb bagged an excellent hat-trick.
Bubb was full of praise for McMahon commenting: "Daryl was at Farnborough with me, he knows how I play and he created a lot of goals for me there." said the 23-year-old Grenada international.
"He's probably the best midfielder in this league by far. He's got great vision and he's very good tactically.
"He's a great signing for Eastleigh and I was happy when they brought him in. I always fancy myself for goals when Daryl's in the side."
